Our Team

Well EV Matters is a company (and EV Matters, as a WAVE entry) are a husband and wife team - Brian and Jean Orr from Wokingham, Berkshire.  We are not inexperience in the adventurous pursuits scene and have dabbled in few challenges over the years!  Mostly it has been around boats - but willing to 'have a go' at most things!

We got into the EV scene almost by accident.  We innocently enough bought a Mitsubushi iMiev EV thinking it would be a novel experince.  However, we had not considered how much ill-judged rhetoric would come with our un-pretentious little run-about!   Comments about being a milk float and golf cart - seemed to be so unjust!   I guess the comments from our adult children (with their huge diesel estate cars) - just hit a raw nerve!  So the gauntlet was well and truly down and in a rash moment I was heard to say - "right let's take the car around the Scottish Highlands".

In Feb 13, the weather was grim and we knew absolutely nothing about the charging infrastructure - let alone how robust and reliable the car would be.  We left, in late March 2013, 'on-a-wing-on-a-prayer' with no experince and little knowledge.  However, pulled it off despite snow, ice and freezing temperatures!  We still haven't won over our adult children - so we are still 'hanging out there' - but having a fantastic time!

The Green MotorSport Entry

In 2014, for the first time, the WAVE TROPHY will be awarded to three categories: Vehicles greaer than 900 kg; Vehicles less than 900 kg (including motor bikes); E-bikes (which can be powered by muscle power, too).  So the competition will be more interesting and each vehicle will only be compared to similar vehicles - there will also be more prizes will be awarded!  Green MotorSport is planning to be driving a new, lightweight, efficient utility electric vehicle, which we have been developing, with ZCars Ltd.

Green MotorSport is an important part of the WAVE team, helping with the technical demonstrations and the infrastructure development. Green MotorSport's new concept in electric drive systems is flexible enough to power a full range of electric vehicles.  This car is in fact a prototype developed for the Growing Air Foundation (GAF) of Amsterdam to begin the changeover to battery power with zero emissions. GAF plan to the Green MotorSport drivetrains in suitable vehicles to help re-plant rain-forests around the world.

This is Gordon Foat MD of Green motorsport Ltd and Leora Rosna, President of the Growing Aur Foundations with the 2013 WAVE entry.

Ready for WAVE?

It the Team Greeen MotorSport Car-1 ready for WAVE - the short answer is probably - No!

Yes - it passed all the drive train testing - though adapting the Commercial of the Shelf (COTS) 'controller' - did take a significant amount of configuration and testing.   Whilst the buggy specification is for rugged cross-county performance - the adaptation for WAVE type motoring is rather different.   Its was also important not to burn energy on rapid performance - what was conceived as a mountain goat had to configuration possibilities to become a fast efficient and graceful gazelle!  Lots of trade-off to be made.  That now all nicely in balance and the buggy can give the required endurance, performance and range.

However, in the last days before departure the suspension was giving concern - the issue stems from needing greater capacity in the battery pack to give the required range - in fact 50% more weight than the standard car!  Unfortunately rough terrain and the extra battery weight - did reveal weakness in the suspension!

With less than one week before WAVE starts - the buggy has been trucked back to the factory in east Yorkshire to get more 'beef'!

Tense days ahead and many sleepless nights for the 'buggy team'!
